Hyundai's Dec despatches fall 2% on yr, exports down more than local sales

MUMBAI – Hyundai Motor India Ltd.'s despatches fell for the second straight month in December to 55,078 units, 2.4% lower than a year ago. The company's domestic despatches dipped 1.3% to 42,208 units, while exports fell 6.1% to 12,870 units in December, it said in an exchange filing on Wednesday.
Hyundai India sold 764,119 units in 2024, flat on year. Domestic sales for the period were 605,433 units, a record high for the company but largely flat on year. Its exports fell 3% to 158,686 units. Hyundai gets around 24% of its revenue from exports.
Sport utility vehicles contributed to 67.6% of Hyundai's sales in India in 2024. The company's models in this segment include the Venue, Exter, Creta, Tucson, Alcazar and the Ioniq 5 electric vehicle. Hyundai holds 34% market share in the mid-size sport utility vehicle segment, 20% in compact, and 18% in premium compact, as per a report by YES Securities. Sales of Creta achieved a record high in 2024, as the company sold 186,919 units of the model. Hyundai is slated to launch the electric variant of the Creta in January.
The company saw its highest-ever yearly contribution of compressed natural gas variants to domestic sales in 2024, at 13.1%, it said in a press release. "HMIL has managed to sustain sales momentum in 2024, despite strong headwinds faced by the industry at large," said Tarun Garg, Hyundai India's whole-time director and chief operating officer said.
For Jul-Sept, Hyundai India's net profit dipped to INR 13.76 billion on revenue of INR 172.60 billion. At 1221 IST, shares of Hyundai India traded at INR 1,797 on the National Stock Exchange, down 0.5%. End
