Govt OKs appeal filing for low tax arrear under Vivad se Vishwas till Jan 31

NEW DELHI– The government has extended the deadline to file an appeal under the Vivad se Vishwas scheme and avail the option to pay a lesser arrear till Jan. 31, the finance ministry said Monday. The previous deadline was Dec. 31.
The tax arrear for all tax appeals filed under the scheme till Jan. 31 would include 100-110% of the disputed amount, and 25-30% of interest or penalty, according to a circular issued by the tax department. Those who file appeals on or after Feb. 1 would be liable to pay 110-120% of the disputed amount, and 30-35% of the interest or penalty.
The government had announced the Vivad se Vishwas scheme in the Budget for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar). The scheme aims to reduce pending tax litigations in the system. It can also help the government generate revenue and provide certainty to the citizens. End
