MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has warned of cold day conditions over northwest India for the next two to three days. Cold to severe cold day conditions are very likely over pockets of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan Monday, the weather bureau said in a release Monday.

Dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail during the late night hours over pockets of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on Monday, the weather bureau said. Ground frost conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh during Monday and Thursday.

Dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail during the late night and early morning hours in isolated pockets of Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till Tuesday. Similar weather conditions are likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Himachal Pradesh during this week, the Met department said.

On the weather systems front, the weather bureau said a western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from Saturday night. This weather system is likely to cause light to scattered rainfall or snowfall over the Western Himalayan region from Wednesday. A cyclonic circulation also lies over the central parts of the Bay of Bengal and adjoining Indian Ocean at lower tropospheric levels.

The minimum temperatures are expected to fall by 2-3 degree Celsius over central and east India during the next 2–3 days. Over western India, except for Gujarat, a fall of 2-4 degree Celsius in the minimum temperatures is expected in the next five days, the department said.  End
