Global alumina output down 3.4% on month in Nov, says Aluminium institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production fell 3.4% on month to 12.21 million tonnes in November, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. On an annual basis, alumina output was up 1.9% on year from 11.98 million tonnes in November last year.

 

The average daily global alumina production fell to 407,000 tonnes in November from the revised 407,600 tonnes in October, according to the data.

 

Alumina production in China fell 3.2% on month to 7.15 million tonnes in November. The country's output, which accounted for over 58% of global alumina production, was up 4.7% from a year ago, the data showed.

 

In the Oceania region, alumina output fell to 1.47 million tonnes in November from 1.48 million tonnes in October. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina production fell to 1.16 million tonnes from 1.23 million tonnes in October. In Europe, production fell 1.6% on month to 611,000 tonnes in November and output in South America declined 5.8% on month to 1 million tonnes, the data showed.

 

According to the data, global primary aluminium production fell 3.1% on month in November to 6.04 million tonnes. At 1717 IST, the most-active January aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was up 0.2% at INR 241.80 per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was down 0.9% at $2,543.5 per tonne.  End
