IMD issues orange alert for northwest, central India for Fri

MUMBAI – With a prediction for isolated heavy rainfall over northwest and central India, the India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for these places for Friday, according to a release. An orange alert indicates a rainfall of 115.6-204.4 mm in 24 hours.
Thunderstorms accompanied by hailstorms are likely over Southeast Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, Vidarbha, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Gujarat Region on Friday and Madhya Pradesh till Saturday, the IMD said.
The weather condition has been caused due to a western disturbance over northern Pakistan and neighbourhoods in lower and middle tropospheric levels, along with an induced cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan, the weather bureau said. "In addition, there is an interaction of westerly winds due to Western Disturbance with easterly winds from anti-cyclone over north Chhattisgarh at lower tropospheric levels along with high moisture feeding from (the) Arabian Sea as well as Bay of Bengal over northwest & central India (during Fri-Sat)."
The IMD also said a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from Wednesday, which is likely to cause light rainfall and snowfall over the region on Wednesday and Thursday.
It has issued warnings for cold wave to severe cold wave conditions over parts of Himachal Pradesh till Saturday. Dense fog conditions are likely to prevail during the late night and early morning hours over parts of Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Assam, Meghalaya, Odisha, Mizoram, Manipur, and Jharkhand till next week, the weather department said.
