India Nov crude steel output up 4.5% on year, says World Steel Association

MUMBAI – Production of crude steel in India rose 4.5% on year to 12.4 million tonnes in November, according to data from the World Steel Association. During the month, the country accounted for over 8.4% of the total global steel output.
Globally, crude steel output rose 0.8% on year to 146.8 million tonnes last month because of a rise in output from China, India, Germany, Turkey, Iran and Brazil, against a fall in production in Japan, the US, Russia, and South Korea. For Jan-Nov, global crude steel production was down 1.4% on year at 1.69 billion tonnes, while output in India jumped 5.9% to 135.9 million tonnes.
China, the world's largest producer, reported a rise in crude steel output by 2.5% on year to 78.4 million tonnes last month. For Jan-Nov, the country's output declined 2.7% on year to 929.2 million tonnes, accounting for nearly 55% of global production for that period.
Steel production in Germany surged 8.6% on year to 2.9 million tonnes in November. Crude steel production in Brazil rose 1.9% on year to 2.8 million tonnes last month, while that in Iran was up slightly by 0.1% on year to 3.1 million tonnes. Similarly, steel output in Turkiye grew 0.7% to 3 million tonnes.
In Japan, crude steel production declined 3.1% on year to 6.9 million tonnes. Production in the US fell 2.8% on year to 6.4 million tonnes. Russia produced an estimated 5.5 million tonnes of steel last month, down 9.2% on year, and output in South Korea dropped 3.6% on year to 5.2 million tonnes. End
