Govt has spent INR 1,166 tln on schemes under National Food Security Program

MUMBAI – The government has spent INR 1,166 trillion on various ongoing schemes under the National Food Security Program since its inception, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare said in a release Monday. Continuous efforts are being made to double the income of farmers of the country, it added.
In his address at the Kisan Samman Diwas and Farmers and Rural Development Beneficiaries Conference at Pune, Union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, said that the need of the hour is to move towards natural farming. The government is continuously working to increase the storage capacity for farmers. "Taking a step forward in this direction, the Central Government is working on a new scheme to deliver the farmers' products to distance places. Under this, the state and central governments are jointly working out plans to enable farmers to transport their products to other states and markets," the release read.
Additionally, the minister said that the river linking project that will be launched on Wednesday will benefit areas which receive heavy rainfall and those which face drought. End
