MUMBAI – The well-marked low-pressure area that lay over the Bay of Bengal is likely to move towards north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts on Tuesday and is likely to cause isolated heavy rainfall over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema till Thursday, the India Meteorological Department said.
The weather system is also likely to cause heavy rainfall over parts of coastal Odisha during Tuesday and Wednesday, the IMD said. During the week, parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning.
The low-pressure area, which had turned into a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal on Saturday, weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area on Sunday.
The IMD said another low-pressure area caused by the western disturbance lay over northwest Rajasthan and is likely to cause moderate rainfall or snowfall over parts of the western Himalayan Region, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan on Monday.
Yet another western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region and adjoining plains from Thursday. This is likely to cause thunderstorms accompanied by hailstorms over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, west Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, central Maharashtra, and Marathwada on Friday.
Meanwhile, cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are very likely over parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh during the week. A cold wave occurs when temperatures drop by 4–6 degrees Celsius below the normal minimum temperature.
Dense fog conditions are likely to prevail during the late night and early morning hours over parts of Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during the week. End
