Aluminium Institute says global output fell 3.1% on mo to 6.04 mln tn in Nov

MUMBAI – Global production of primary aluminium fell 3.1% on month in November to 6.04 million tonnes, data from the International Aluminium Institute showed. However, on an annual basis, production in November rose 3% from 5.86 million tonnes a year ago. Global daily average aluminium production rose slightly to 201,300 tonnes in November from a revised figure of 201,000 tonnes for October.

 

In China, aluminium production fell by 121,000 tonnes to 3.61 million tonnes in November, the data showed. The country accounts for nearly 60% of global production of the metal. Daily average aluminium production in China fell marginally to 120,300 tonnes in November.

 

In Asia, excluding China, production fell to 397,000 tonnes in November from 408,000 tonnes in October. In Africa, aluminium output in November fell by 4,000 tonnes to 133,000 tonnes. In the Gulf Cooperation Council, the other major aluminium producing region after China, output fell by 15,000 tonnes to 514,000 tonnes in November.

 

Production in western and central Europe fell to 238,000 tonnes last month from 246,000 tonnes in October. The output of the metal in North America fell by 8,000 tonnes to 327,000 tonnes in November, and in South America, it decreased 4,000 tonnes to 126,000 tonnes. 

 

Global alumina production in October rose 5.3% on month to 11.89 million tonnes, as per the latest available data.

 

At 1245 IST, the most active December contract of aluminium on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was up 0.7% at INR 244.70 per kg. The three-month futures contract on the London Metal Exchange was steady at $2,535 per tonne.  End
