NEW DELHI – The statistics ministry will begin the 80th round of the National Sample Survey from Jan. 1. In this round, the survey will cover the health sector and include a comprehensive modular survey on the telecom industry, the ministry said in a release Saturday.
The National Statistics Office and state directorates of economics and statistics will jointly carry out the survey on health for a period of one year starting Jan. 1, while the survey on telecom will be conducted by the NSO in Jan-Mar, the ministry said.
"The survey on health aims to generate basic quantitative information on the health sector," the ministry said in the release. "Primarily, indicators on morbidity, hospitalisation rates, utilisation of both public and private health care institutions, proportion of institutional childbirth etc. will be attempted to be derived from this survey data with special emphasis on 'out of pocket expense' as well as on access to government financed health insurance programmes."
The comprehensive modular survey on telecom will provide information on telecom-related indicators, and information and communication skills, the ministry said, adding that the collected data will also be used for reporting of global indices by line ministries.
The NSO on Tuesday and Wednesday had organised an all-India workshop of trainers for the 80th round of the National Sample Survey in the national capital. During the valedictory session on the two-day workshop, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation Secretary Saurabh Garg emphasised the pivotal role of surveys in evidence-based policy-making. "Highlighting the need for high-quality and timely data, he (Garg) urged the participants to ensure rigorous standards in data collection and processing," the ministry said.
The 79th round of the National Sample Survey was earmarked for collection of data for compilation of a number of Sustainable Development Goals indicators along with a survey on Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa/Amchi and Homoeopathy, also known as AYUSH. End
