NEW DELHI– The commerce and industry ministry has approached the finance ministry to extend the Interest Equalisation Scheme, a commerce ministry official said. The scheme, which allows interest subvention to exporters from micro, small and medium enterprises on pre- and post-shipment credit, is set to end on Dec. 31.
The official did not specify whether the finance ministry agreed to extend the scheme, or the likely period of extension. The scheme was extended by three months in September.
Earlier, the government allowed interest subvention to all merchant exporters under the Interest Equalisation Scheme. The government has also capped the fiscal benefits per exporter to INR 5 million per annum. End
