NEW DELHI – Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra while responding to queries from the media on Tuesday said he would first like to join the Reserve Bank of India and understand the turf before commenting on what he aims to do as the newly appointed governor of the central bank. However, the bureaucrat said he hopes to continue doing what is best for the Indian economy.

"That (RBI governor) is a different role, this (revenue secretary) is a different role. Perspectives change, let's see. One has to do what is best for the economy," Malhotra said.

Malhotra will take charge as the RBI governor for a three-year term starting Wednesday. He succeeds the outgoing Governor Shaktikanta Das, whose term ends Tuesday.  End
