MUMBAI – Shaktikanta Das, ahead of demitting office as the Reserve Bank of India governor late Tuesday, in a social media post expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Immensely grateful to the Hon’ble PM @narendramodi for giving me this opportunity to serve the country as Governor RBI and for his guidance and encouragement. Benefited a lot from his ideas and thoughts," Das said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, Tuesday. Das also thanked Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for her constant support and backing.

The government on Monday named Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra as the new governor of the RBI for a period of three years starting Wednesday.

Das said that fiscal-monetary coordination was at its best during the last six years, which helped deal with multiple challenges.

He also thanked all stakeholders in the financial sector and in the economy, including experts and economists, industry bodies and associations, and organisations in the agriculture, cooperative and service sectors, for their inputs and policy suggestions.

Das also extended a "big" thanks to the entire RBI team. "Together, we successfully navigated an exceptionally difficult period of unprecedented global shocks. May the RBI grow even taller as an institution of trust and credibility. My best wishes to each one of you," he said.

Das was first appointed as RBI governor in December 2018 for three years, but was re-appointed in 2021 for another three years. On completion of his tenure, Das will have completed six full years as the head of the Indian central bank. Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra will take over as the RBI governor for a period of three years from Wednesday.  End
