MUMBAI – The low pressure area, lying over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining east equatorial Indian Ocean, is likely to cause heavy rainfall over south peninsular India from Tuesday to Friday, the India Meteorological Department said Monday.

IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the southeast Bay of Bengal till Wednesday and the southwest Bay of Bengal till Thursday.

IMD said a cold wave is likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladak, and west Uttar Pradesh till Wednesday. It is also very likely over parts of Uttarkhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Madhya Pradesh during the week.

Dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail during the late night or early morning hours in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Himachal Pradesh during the week, the IMD said.

A gradual fall in minimum temperatures by 2-4 degrees Celsius is likely over northwest, central, and east India during the next three days, the IMD said. End
