Eleven grain storage godowns built under pilot project in cooperative sector

MUMBAI – Under the pilot project of the World's Largest Grain Storage Plan in the cooperative sector, 11 primary agricultural credit societies in 11 different states have constructed 11 godowns with the support of National Cooperative Development Corp., National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, and NABARD Consultancy Services.

 

The total storage capacity of these 11 godowns is 9,750 tonnes, Amit Shah, minister for cooperation, said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. The godowns have been constructed in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Tripura, and Rajasthan, according to the reply.

 

Of the 11 storage spaces, three have been kept by primary agricultural credit societies for their own use in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Telangana. Three others have been hired by state or central agencies in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat, according to the reply.

 

The pilot project has been extended and more than 500 additional primary agricultural credit societies have been identified as of Nov. 21 for construction of godowns under the World's Largest Grain Storage Plan in the cooperative sector.

 

Under the plan, primary agricultural credit societies also receive subsidies and interest subvention through convergence of various existing central schemes like the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund and the Agricultural Marketing Infrastructure Scheme, the release said.  End
