MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department said heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of north Kerala and coastal Karnataka Tuesday and will decrease thereafter. The weather agency also issued an orange alert in Kerala for very heavy rains. An orange alert indicates a rainfall of 115.6-204.4 mm in 24 hours. 

 

Meanwhile, the well-marked low pressure area over coastal Karnataka and the adjoining east central Arabian Sea is likely to move west-northwestwards over the eastcentral Arabian Sea during the next two days, the IMD said. The weather system is likely to maintain the same intensity for the next 24 hours and weaken gradually thereafter. 

 

The weather bureau has also projected a fresh western disturbance to affect the western Himalayan region from Saturday night and adjoining plains of northwest India from Sunday. It is likely to cause isolated to scattered light-moderate rainfall or snowfall over the western Himalayan region during Sat-Mon and over the adjoining plains of northwest India on Sunday. 

 

On the temperature front, the weather bureau expects a rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the Gujarat region during the next three days and thereafter a gradual fall by 3-4 degrees Celsius over the subsequent 3 days. End
