MUMBAI – Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. on Sunday reported healthy year-on-year growth in total sales for November as strong growth in despatches of utility vehicles and light commercial vehicles, and sales to other companies and overall exports helped offset weak sales in other segments. India's largest passenger vehicle maker despatched a total of 181,531 units in November, up 10% from 164,439 units in the year-ago period, but lower than 206,434 units sold in October, according to an exchange filing by the company.
In the utility vehicle category, the automaker sold 59,003 units in India in November, up 20% on year. Currently, Maruti Suzuki offers models such as Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, Fronx, Invicto and Jimny in the utility vehicle category. In the passenger car category, which includes mini, compact, and mid-size sub-segments, Maruti Suzuki sold 71,720 units in India in November, down 4% from 74,916 units sold a year ago.
In November, the automaker sold a total of 9,750 mini-cars in India, down 2% from a year ago. Sales of compact cars declined 5% on year to 61,373 units, but sales of mid-size vehicles surged 115% on year to 597 units. In the mini, compact and mid-size categories, Maruti Suzuki offers models such as WagonR, Baleno, Swift, Alto, S-Presso and Ciaz.
The company's total domestic sales, including passenger and light commercial vehicles and sales to other original equipment makers, grew 8% on year to 152,898 units in November. Maruti Suzuki's domestic passenger vehicle sales came in at 141,312 units, up 5% on year, and sales to other original equipment makers jumped 80% on year to 8,660 units. In November, the company sold 2,926 light commercial vehicles, up 17% on year. Its total
exports during the month surged 25% on year to 28,633 units.
Cumulatively for Apr-Nov, Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 1.45 million units, up 2.7% on year. The sales in the first eight months of 2024-25 (Apr-Mar) were driven by higher despatches of utility vehicles and light commercial vehicles, and sales to other companies, and exports. During the period, the company sold 473,312 utility vehicles in India, up 14% on year, and 22,896 light commercial vehicles, up 5% on year. Sales to other original equipment makers jumped a massive 86% on year to 72,893 units, and its overall exports rose 18% on year to 210,077 units.
On Friday, shares of Maruti Suzuki ended 1.1% higher at INR 11,074.20 on the National Stock Exchange. End
