India Apr-Oct major subsidies spend up 7.3% at INR 2.49 tln

NEW DELHI – The government's expenditure on major subsidies in Apr-Oct rose 7.3% on year to INR 2.487 trillion, data from the Controller General of Accounts showed. The government had spent INR 2.317 trillion in the same period a year ago.
The expenditure accounted for 65% of the Budget estimate of INR 3.812 trillion for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), compared with 62% in the same period of the previous financial year. The expenditure on fertiliser subsidy was down 14.4% on year at INR 1.024 trillion in Apr-Oct.
The food subsidy bill in the first seven months of FY25 was INR 1.402 trillion, up 26.5% on year. Petroleum subsidy grew over five times from the same period a year ago to INR 60 billion, but remained within the budgeted outlay of INR 119 billion for FY25.
