MUMBAI – The BSE said in a circular Thursday that the expiry day for its weekly futures and contracts on Sensex will be revised to Tuesday from Friday. The monthly Sensex contract, too, will see the expiry day change to the last Tuesday of the expiry month from the last Friday of the expiry month. This will apply to all index derivatives generated after Jan. 1.

The exchange further said monthly futures and contracts on Bankex and Sensex 50 indices will both expire on the last Tuesday of the expiry month. Currently, Bankex contracts expire on the last Monday of the expiry month and Sensex 50 contracts expire on the last Thursday of the expiry month.

The BSE did not specify the reasons for having a common expiry day for the monthly contracts in all three indices. Informist had reported Nov. 6 that SEBI was in talks with the stock exchanges to explore whether all index monthly futures and options contracts can be aligned to expire on the same day for an exchange. BSE's move appears to be an outcome of the talks.  End
