India gets 64% below normal rain at 2.0 mm in week ended Wed, says IMD

--IMD: India week-to-Wednesday rainfall 64% below normal at 2.0 mm
MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 2.0 mm in the week ended Wednesday, 64% below the normal of 5.4 mm for the period, the India Meteorological Department said. All the four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal rainfall during the week, the weather bureau said.
Northwest India received 88% below-normal rainfall during the week at 0.4 mm. Central India recorded no rainfall at all, the data showed. Rainfall in the south peninsula was 50% below normal at 8.1 mm during the week, the agency said.
East and northeast India received 48% below-normal rainfall at 1.7 mm during the week. However, east and northeast India is the only region which received above normal so far during the northeast monsoon period at 146.7 mm, up 2% from normal, the data showed. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, and Sikkim have received above normal rainfall so far.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was 'normal' in one and 'excess' in two during the week. Rainfall was 'large deficient' in eight subdivisions, while it was 'deficient' in two and 23 subdivisions received no rain during the week.
Since Oct. 1, India has received 88.5 mm of rainfall, 14% below the normal of 103.1 mm for the period. End
