M&M launches SUV EVs BE 6e at INR 1.9 mln, XEV 9e at INR 2.2 mln

MUMBAI – Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. Tuesday unveiled its new XEV and BE electric vehicle brands by launching XEV 9e and BE 6e vehicles in Chennai. The ex-showroom price of the BE 6e basic variant will start at INR 1.9 million while the on-road price in Chennai is likely to be around INR 2.04 million, the company said. The basic variant of the XEV 9e is priced at INR 2.19 million ex-showroom and the equivalent on-road price in Chennai would be INR 2.4 million, the company said.
Pre-purchase drives for prospective customers will begin in the middle of December, the company said. The go-to-market will begin in the latter part of January, while deliveries will begin from the end of February.
The battery charge can climb to 80% from 20% in 20 minutes, the company said while launching the vehicles. The 79 kilowatt-hour battery on the BE 6e provides a range of over 500 kilometres on a single charge per week, M&M said. The two sport utility vehicles were tested in various Indian cities to get an idea of the real-world range. The company said it will provide a lifetime warranty on car batteries.
While the XEV 9e can go from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in 6.8 seconds, the BE 6e can do it in 6.7 seconds. The overall ground clearance on the XEV 9e and BE 6e is 207 millimetres. The battery ground clearance is 222 millimetres on the XEV 9e, 218 millimetres on the BE 6e. The boot volume on XEV 9e and BE 6e is 663 litres and 455 litres, respectively. The frunk volume, which is the boot space located in the front of the car, is 150 litres for the XEV 9e and 45 litres for BE 6e.
The two electric vehicles are built on the company's electric-origin INGLO architecture. The overall length of XEV 9e is 4.77 metres while the BE 6e is 4.37 metres long. The two electric vehicle models are equipped with brake-by-wire, variable geometry steering, ultraviolet ray protection glasses, and air purifiers.
M&M had reported a net profit of INR 38.41 billion in Jul-Sept on revenues of INR 275.53 billion. On Tuesday, shares of M&M closed 2% lower on the National Stock Exchange at INR 2,985.20. End
