Global October alumina output up 4.8% on month, says Aluminium institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production rose 4.8% on month to 12.61 million tonnes in October, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. The alumina output was up 3.6% on year from 12.17 million tonnes in October last year.
The average daily global alumina production rose to 406,645 tonnes in October from the revised 401,000 tonnes in September, according to the data.
Alumina production in China rose 2.1% on month to 7.36 million tonnes in October. The country's output was up 5.1% on year, and accounted for over 58% of the global alumina production, the data showed.
In the Oceania region, alumina output rose to 1.48 million tonnes in October from 1.35 million tonnes in September. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina production increased to 1.23 million tonnes from 1.12 million tonnes in September. In Europe, alumina production rose 3.8% on month to 621,000 tonnes in October from 598,000 tonnes in September and output in South America increased 9.2% on month to 1.07 million tonnes in October, the data showed.
According to the latest data, global primary aluminium production rose 3.5% on month in October to 6.22 million tonnes. At 2010 IST, the most-active December aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was down 0.8% at INR 243.35 per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was down 1.2% at $2,619 per tonne. End
