NEW DELHI – The deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm on Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said. The cyclonic storm will continue to move northwestwards towards the Tamil Nadu coast, skirting Sri Lanka in the next two days, the agency said.
Coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to get heavy to extremely heavy rainfall till Wednesday, which will most likely to moderate to heavy rainfall till Saturday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall over isolated places is very likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema from Thursday to Saturday, IMD said.
IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the southwest Bay of Bengal along and off Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu coasts from Wednesday to Friday.
Dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail over isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh during the early morning hours till Friday, the weather bureau said. Similar weather conditions are likely over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh from Thursday to Saturday, it said.
On Tuesday, the lowest minimum temperature of 7.4 degrees Celsius was reported at Adampur Air Force Station in Punjab, the IMD said. The weather bureau sees no large change in minimum temperatures over the Western Himalayan region during the next 24 hours but forecasts a gradual fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius thereafter. In central India, minimum temperatures are likely to fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next three days, IMD said.
Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha are likely to experience a drop in minimum temperatures by 3-4 degrees Celsius in the next three days. For the rest of the country, IMD sees no significant change in minimum temperatures during the next five days, it added. End
