--Govt OKs INR 17.5 bln for 186 MW Tato 1 hydro electric project in Arunachal 

 

NEW DELHI – The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Monday approved proposals to set up two hydro-electric projects in Arunachal Pradesh with a combined outlay of INR 36.89 billion. 

 

The Cabinet approved investment of INR 19.39 billion for construction of Heo hydro-electric project in Shi Yomi district of the north-eastern state. It also approved investment of INR 17.50 billion to build Tato-I hydro-electric project in the same district of Arunachal Pradesh. The estimated completion period for both projects is 50 months.

 

The Heo hydro project with an installed capacity of 240 megawatt would produce 1 billion units of energy, the government said in a release. The Tato-I project, with an installed capacity of 186 MW, would produce 802 million units of energy. 

 

The power generated from the projects will help improve the power supply position in Arunachal Pradesh and will also help in balancing of the national grid, the government said. The two projects will be implemented through a joint venture company between North Eastern Electric Power Corp. Ltd. and the government of Arunachal Pradesh.

 

The Centre shall extend INR 1.27 billion and INR 773.7 million as budgetary support for construction of roads, bridges and associated transmission line under enabling infrastructure for Heo hydro and Tato-I hydro projects, respectively. This would be besides the Central Financial Assistance of INR 1.30 billion and INR 1.20 billion towards equity share of the State for the Heo and Tato-I, respectively.  End
