NDA heads for massive Maharashtra win, JMM-alliance in Jharkhand

NEW DELHI – The Mahayuti alliance of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party was headed for a massive victory in Maharashtra, the trends released by the Election Commission of India showed. The Mahayuti was leading on 221 seats in Maharashtra, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance of the Congress, the Shiv Sena (Udhhav Balasaheb Thackarey) and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) was leading on just 55 out of 288 assembly seats.
The trends also showed the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance-led by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha retaining power in Jharkhand. The bloc was leading on 50 out of 81 seats in Jharkhand, while the National Democratic Alliance-led by the BJP was leading on 29 seats.
In Kerala's Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, where a by-poll was necessitated after Rahul Gandhi vacated the seat, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was leading with a margin of over 150,000 votes. In Maharashtra's Nanded Lok Sabha seat, where by-poll was being held, the BJP's Santukrao Marotrao Hambarde was leading with 4,371 votes.
The counting for assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand started at 0800 IST on Saturday.
