Aluminium Institute says global output rose 3.5% on month in October

MUMBAI – Global production of primary aluminium rose 3.5% on month in October to 6.22 million tonnes, data from the International Aluminium Institute showed. On an annual basis, production in October rose 1.3% from 6.14 million tonnes a year ago. Global daily average aluminium production rose to 200,677 tonnes in October from a revised figure of 200,300 tonnes for September.
In China, aluminium production rose by 120,000 tonnes to 3.72 million tonnes in October, the data showed. The country accounts for nearly 60% of global production of the metal. Daily average aluminium production in China was at 120,000 tonnes in October, unchanged from the previous month.
In Asia, excluding China, production rose to 408,000 tonnes in October from 392,000 tonnes in September. In Africa, the output in October rose by 3,000 tonnes to 137,000 tonnes.
In the Gulf Cooperation Council, the other major aluminium producing region after China, production rose by 17,000 tonnes to 529,000 tonnes in October.
Production in western and central Europe rose to 246,000 tonnes last month from 237,000 tonnes in September. The output of metals in North America rose by 11,000 tonnes to 335,000 tonnes in October, and in South America, it increased 6,000 tonnes to 130,000 tonnes.
Global alumina production in September fell 4.2% on month to 12.03 million tonnes, as per the latest available data.
At 1620 IST, the most active November contract of aluminium on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was steady at INR 244.15 rupees a kg. The three-month futures contract on the London Metal Exchange was down 0.7% at $2,625 per tonne. End
