India gets 33% below normal rain at 4.4 mm in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received average rainfall of 4.4 mm in the week ended Wednesday, 33% below the normal of 6.6 mm for the period, the India Meteorological Department said. Three of the four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal rainfall during the week, the weather bureau said.

 

East and northeast India received 98% below-normal rainfall at 0.1 mm during the week. Northwest India received 82% below-normal rainfall during the week at 0.5 mm. Central India recorded 0.3 mm rainfall, 93% lower than normal, the data showed. Rainfall in the south peninsula was 7% above normal at 21.2 mm during the week, the agency said.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was 'normal' in two, 'excess' in four, and 'large excess' in one during the week. Rainfall was 'large deficient' in seven subdivisions, while it was 'deficient' in two. Twenty subdivisions received no rain during the week. 

 

Since Oct. 1, India has received 86.6 mm of rainfall, 11% below the normal of 97.7 mm for the period.  End
