EPFO adds net 1.88 mln subscribers in September, up 9.3% on year

NEW DELHI – The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation net added 1.88 million subscribers in September, up 9.3% from a year ago, according to data released Wednesday by the labour ministry. The EPFO had net added 1.85 million subscribers in August.
Of the net subscribers added in September, around 947,000 came under the social security cover of the EPFO for the first time, up 6.2% on year. The increase can be attributed to growing employment opportunities, increased awareness of emp1oyee benefits, and EPFO's successful outreach programs, the ministry said in the release.
Of the new members added during the month, around 60% were in the age group of 18-25. The first-time members included around 247,000 females, up 9.1% on year. The net growth in female members during the month was 12.1% on year at 370,000.
Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Haryana accounted for 59.9% of the total net member additions in September, collectively adding 1.13 million members. Maharashtra added the most members on a net basis, contributing 21.2% to the total new members.
Sectors like expert services, trading in commercial establishments, electric, mechanical or engineering products, and garment making were among those which saw a significant rise in membership in September. Of the total net membership, around 41.7?ditions are from expert services, which consist of manpower suppliers, normal contractors, security services and miscellaneous activities, it said. End
