MUMBAI – The Reserve Bank of India on Tuesday warned the public about "deepfake" videos of Governor Shaktikanta Das promoting investment schemes being circulated on social media. In a release, the central bank cautioned against engaging with such videos.

"RBI clarifies that its officials are not involved in or support any such activities and these videos are fake," the release said. "RBI does not give any such financial investment advice."

The videos falsely claimed the launch of or support to some investment schemes by the RBI, in an attempt to draw investment into them through technological tools, the release said. Deepfakes are fake videos made through artificial intelligence tools that mimic likenesses.  End
