--IMD: India rainfall in week to Wednesday 70?low normal at 2.3 mm 

 

MUMBAI – The average rainfall across the country in the week ended Wednesday was 2.3 mm, 70?low the normal of 7.5 mm for the period, the India Meteorological Department said. During the week, all the four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal showers, the weather bureau said.

 

Rainfall in northwest India was 41?low normal at 1.5 mm. West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal, east Rajasthan, and west Rajasthan did not get any rainfall. Only Jammu and Kashmir and the Ladakh subdivision received 7.0 mm rainfall.

 

There was no rainfall in central India, the agency said. Rainfall in the south peninsula was 8.0 mm, 64% lower than normal, the data showed. Rainfall in east and northeast India was down 80% during the week at 1.3 mm.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "normal" in two and "deficient" in three during the week. Rainfall was "large deficient" in 10 subdivisions. There was no rainfall in 21 subdivisions. 

 

Since Oct. 1, India has received 82.2 mm of rainfall, 10?low the normal 91.1 mm for the period.  End
