MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu till Sunday, and in parts of Rayalseema during the next two days. Similar weather conditions are also likely over parts of south interior Karnataka on Wednesday and Thursday and coastal Karnataka and Yanam till Thursday.

A cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal persists and will now extend to middle tropospheric levels. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over this area during the next 24 hours and move slowly westwards towards the Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka coasts during the subsequent two days, according to the bureau.

A trough runs from the above cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal to the westcentral Bay of Bengal off north coastal Andhra Pradesh in lower tropospheric levels and a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from Thursday, the department said.

The weather agency said very dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail, both in the night and morning hours in some pockets of west Punjab from Tuesday till Friday. Dense fog is also seen over pockets of Himachal Pradesh during the next five days, the department said.

No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over northwest and central India during the next four to five days. The department also sees no significant change in minimum temperatures over east India during the next two days, and expects a gradual fall by 3–4 degrees Celsius thereafter for the subsequent three days.  End
