NEW DELHI – On the last day of campaigning for 43 assembly seats in Jharkhand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday interacted with the Bharatiya Janata Party's booth-level workers, asking them to educate people about corruption in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led government and about the BJP's welfare schemes at the Centre and promises for the state. The first phase of the elections will be held on Wednesday.

Modi interacted with party workers under the Mera Booth Sabse Majboot programme through the NaMo app. He asked party workers to initiate door-to-door dialogue to ensure that more and more people come out on polling day to cast votes for the BJP. "The BJP and our allies should get more votes. Put your best efforts at booth level to get the blessings of people. You should come to the booth in the morning and stay there till the last person casts the vote. It is your duty to ensure that youngsters to senior citizens cast their vote on polling day. Sing songs, beat drums or utensils to encourage people to vote for the BJP," Modi said.

The prime minister alleged that the JMM-led government in Jharkhand had started schemes similar to those of the central government, but this was aimed at corrupt practices. "They (JMM and allies) couldn't take bribes under the central schemes. So, they launched state-sponsored schemes and indulged in corrupt practices. They brought a state-sponsored scheme (Mukhya Mantri Abua Swasth Suraksha Yojana) similar to Ayushman Bharat scheme to take bribes etc.," Modi said. He asked party workers to expose the corrupt and anti-tribal and anti-Dalit policies of the JMM-led-government.

To woo voters, the saffron party has offered a slew of freebies such as INR 2,000 unemployment allowance, INR 2,100 to women every month, and free gas cylinders twice a year in Jharkhand. The BJP has also promised that it will exclude tribals from the scope of the Uniform Civil Code, which the party has pledged to implement in Jharkhand.

The second phase of elections in the state will be held on Nov. 20, along with the Maharashtra polls, and the results will be announced on Nov 23. In the 2019 polls, the JMM-led alliance had bagged 47 seats, with the JMM winning 30 seats, the Congress 16, and the RJD one. The BJP had won 25 seats.  End
