MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast a fresh spell of heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and south coastal Andhra Pradesh till Sunday. A cyclonic circulation lies over central parts of south Bay of Bengal in lower tropospheric levels, the weather bureau said.

In view of heavy rainfall, the department has advised farmers to drain excess water from the standing crops in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It has also advised keeping the harvested produce in safer places and providing mechanical support to horticultural crops.

Moderate rainfall at a few places accompanied with isolated thunderstorm and lightning is very likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura in the northeastern part of the country, IMD said. The weather agency has also forecast hailstorm activity over parts of Manipur Wednesday.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe in the southern peninsula are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall Wednesday, the weather agency said. During the next seven days, the department sees heavy rains over parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema.

In terms of temperatures, the weather bureau sees no significant change in minimum temperatures over northern parts of the country and a likely rise over central and south India by 2-3 degrees celsius during the next one week.  End
