NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined world leaders on Wednesday to congratulate Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential elections. "As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership," Modi said in a post on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
Trump is set to return to the White House as the 47th US president after he won the key swing state of Pennsylvania. The Associated Press said Trump has won 267 electoral votes compared with 224 for Vice President Kamala Harris. US presidential candidates require a minimum of 270 electoral votes to win the election. Fox News has already called the election in favour of Trump, estimating that he has won 277 electoral votes against 226 for Harris.
Speaking to his supporters in West Palm Beach in Florida, Trump thanked Americans for electing him as the 47th president. Should his victory be confirmed, Trump will become only the second president ever, and the first in over a hundred years, to serve two terms that are not consecutive.
"Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity," Modi said. Other global leaders also offered their congratulations to Trump on his victory. "Congratulations, President @realDonaldTrump. Ready to work together as we did for four years. With your convictions and mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity," French President Emmanuel Macron said on X.
"Congratulations on history’s greatest comeback!," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote on X. "Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America," Netanyahu said. End
