NEW DELHI - The government has changed the timing of the release of the Consumer Price Index and Index of Industrial Production data to 1600 IST from 1730 IST earlier. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation will now release the CPI data for October and IIP data for September at 1600 IST on Nov. 12.
The government has decided to change the timing of the release of data "to provide more time on the day of release to access CPI and IIP data", the statistics ministry said in a release on Tuesday. The statistics ministry usually releases CPI and IIP data on 12th of every month, barring holidays. If 12th of a month falls on a holiday, CPI data is released the next working day and the IIP data is released on the previous working day.
"The new release time aligns with the closing hours of major financial markets in India, ensuring that CPI data dissemination does not interfere with active trading." The Indian stock market and the foreign currency market close at 1530 IST, while the bond market closes at 1700 IST.
India's CPI inflation rose to a nine-month high of 5.49% in September, while the industrial production contracted 0.1% on year in August. End
