MUMBAI – Power generation and transmission company SJVN Ltd.'s net profit for the September quarter rose 7.2% on year on the back of an over 14% rise in total income. The net profit for the quarter was INR 4.73 billion, up from INR 4.41 billion in the year-ago quarter. The total revenue for the quarter was INR 9.95 billion, up from INR 8.71 billion last year. The company's earnings were in line with the estimates of two brokerages.
Other income for the quarter was INR 824 million, marginally up from INR 820 million year ago. The other income grew for the first time, after falling for three consecutive quarters.
The company's total expenditure rose 17.3% from a year earlier to INR 4.66 billion, but was at a three-quarter low. The company's finance costs increased to INR 1.6 billion, rising 23.7% from INR 1.29 billion in the year-ago period.
The depreciation and amortisation cost for the quarter was INR 1.16 billion, up from INR 980 million in the year-ago quarter. The company spent INR 726 million on employee benefits in comparison to INR 644 million in the year-ago quarter. The other expenses increased to INR 997 million, from INR 942 million in the year-ago quarter.
SJVN's net profit for Apr-Sept was INR 8 billion, up 12.4% from INR 7.12 billion in the year-ago period. The company's revenue for the six-month period was INR 18.26 billion, up 19% from INR 15.35 billion a year ago.
The company's revenue from renewable energy segment in Jul-Sept was INR 204 million, down from INR 238 million in the year-ago quarter. The revenue from this segment in the Apr-Sept period was INR 361 million, down from INR 432 million in the year-ago period.
Revenue from the hydropower segment was up 14.4% on year at INR 9.53 billion. The same for the first six months of the current financial year was up 18.8% on year at INR 17.49 billion.
The company's gross energy generation from the hydropower segment for the September quarter was 4,545 million units, up 9.7% from 4,142 million units in the year-ago quarter. The company's wind power generation during the quarter was 51.31 million units, down 13.1% from 59.05 million units a year ago. Solar power generation for the quarter was 1.59 million units, down 5.4% from 1.68 million units in the year-ago quarter. End
