MUMBAI – A fresh spell of rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and coastal Andhra Pradesh from Thursday to Sunday, the India Meteorological Department said in a release Tuesday. The rest of the country would not see any significant change in weather during the week, it said.
During the week, isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, south Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema, the department said. It added that a cyclonic circulation lies over the central parts of south Bay of Bengal at lower tropospheric levels.
So far in the northeast monsoon season of Oct-Dec, the south peninsula region received 7% above-normal rainfall at 183.4 mm. East and northeast India received 11% above normal rainfall at 141.5 mm, but precipitation over key wheat growing states such as Bihar and Jharkhand is still deficient. Rainfall in these states was also deficient during the southwest monsoon period of Jun-Sept.
Meanwhile, the department said dense fog conditions are very likely over a few pockets of northeast Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday morning. End
