Tea Board says India's tea output in Sept down nearly 2% YoY at 164.62 mln kg

MUMBAI – India's tea production in September fell nearly 2% on year to 164.62 million kg, according to provisional data released by the Tea Board India. In the year ago period, the country had produced 167.76 million kg of tea.
North Indian states produced 141.64 million kg of tea in September, contributing almost 86% to the country's total production for the month, the data showed. Assam accounted for 54.6% of the total tea produced in the country at 89.98 million kg. West Bengal accounted for 29% of the total output at 47.42 million kg in September, the data showed.
Southern states produced 22.98 million kg of tea in September, accounting for 14% of the country's total production. Tamil Nadu produced 16.59 million kg of tea, accounting for 10% of the country's total production, and Kerala produced 5.99 million kg of tea in September, Tea Board data showed.
India's tea production in the first nine months of the year, or Jan-Sept, was 913.51 million kg. End
