High Creta sales drive Hyundai sales in Oct; SUV sales highest ever

MUMBAI – Hyundai Motor India Ltd. Friday posted its third-highest monthly sales in October since inception, driven by strong sales of Creta. The company sold 70,078 units in October, up 2% from 68,728 units a year ago. Sales of sport utility vehicles, which constituted 68% of the company's sales in October, were 37,902 units during the month, the highest ever sales in a month, the company said in an exchange filing.
While the company's domestic sales were almost flat on year at 55,568 units in October, its exports rose 6.7% on year in the month to 14,510 units. Hyundai said the domestic sales for October were also the third-highest since its inception. Domestic sales of Creta were 17,497 units in October, the highest ever monthly domestic sales of the model, the company said. Domestic sales of Creta constituted 25% of the company's total sales in October.
The company said it sold 8,261 compressed natural gas-driven vehicles in October, the highest ever sales of these vehicles. CNG-driven vehicles accounted for nearly 15% of domestic sales in October. On sales of CNG-driven vehicles, the company said it will continue to boost its CNG penetration and its innovative 'Hy-CNG technology' has helped the company achieve strong growth in the segment in October.
On Thursday, shares of the company closed at INR 1,822.55 on the National Stock Exchange, down 0.5%. End
