--IMD: India rainfall in week to Wednesday 13% below normal at 9.5 mm

MUMBAI – The country got an average rainfall of 9.5 mm in the week ended Wednesday, 13% below the normal rainfall of 10.9 mm for the period, the India Meteorological Department said. Two out of four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal showers during the week, the weather bureau said.

Northwest India received 96% below-normal showers during the week at 0.1 mm. Subdivisions such as west Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal, east Rajasthan, and west Rajasthan recorded no rainfall during the week.

The South peninsula recorded 12.8 mm rain, 60% lower than the normal rainfall for the period, the data showed. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 132% higher during the week at 30.0 mm. Similarly, central India received 2% above-normal rainfall at 6.4 mm during the week, the agency said.

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "normal" in three and "large excess" in six during the week. Rainfall was "large deficient" in 12 subdivisions, while it was "deficient" in five. Ten subdivisions received no rain during the week. 

Since Oct. 1, India has received 74.4 mm of rainfall, on par with normal level of 74.1 mm for the period.  End
