India Apr-Sept major subsidies spend up 4.0% YoY at INR 2.15 tln

NEW DELHI – The government's expenditure on major subsidies in Apr-Sept rose a marginal 4.0% on year to INR 2.147 trillion, data from the Controller General of Accounts showed. The government spent INR 2.064 trillion in the same period a year ago.
The expenditure accounted for 56% of the Budget estimate of INR 3.812 trillion for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), compared with 55% in the same period of the previous financial year. The expenditure on fertiliser subsidy was down 18.8% on year at INR 895 billion in Apr-Sept.
The food subsidy bill in the first six months of FY25 was INR 1.214 trillion, up 27.6% on year. Petroleum subsidy grew over three times from the same period a year ago to INR 38 billion, but remained within the budgeted outlay of INR 119 billion.
