Global September alumina output down 4.2% on month, says aluminium institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production fell 4.2% on month to 12.03 million tonnes in September, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. In September, alumina output was down 0.2% from 12.05 million tonnes in the same period last year.

 

The average daily global alumina production fell to 401,000 tonnes in September from 405,225 tonnes in August, according to the revised data.

 

Alumina production in China dropped 3.2% on month to 7.21 million tonnes in September. The country's output was up 4.3% on year, and accounted for nearly 60% of the global alumina production, the data showed. 

 

In the Oceania region, alumina output fell to 1.35 million tonnes in September from 1.39 million tonnes in August. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina production slipped to 1.12 million tonnes from 1.23 million tonnes in August, the data showed. In Europe, alumina production slid 6.7% on month to 598,000 tonnes in September from 641,000 tonnes in August and output in South America fell 3.8% on month to 979,000 tonnes in September, the data showed.

 

According to the latest data, global primary aluminium production fell 3.2% in September to 6.0 million tonnes from 6.21 million tonnes in August. At 2115 IST, the most-active November aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was down 0.6% at 242.05 rupees per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was down 1.2% at $2,646 per tonne.  End
