Aluminium Institute says global output fell 3.2% on month in September

MUMBAI – Global production of primary aluminium fell 3.2% month-on-month to 6.0 million tonnes in September, data from the International Aluminium Institute showed. Year-on-year, production rose 1.3% from 5.93 million tonne a year ago. Global daily average aluminium production rose to 200,233 tonnes in September from a revised figure of 200,161 tonnes for August.
In China, aluminium production fell by 120,000 tonnes to 3.6 million tonnes in September, the data showed. The country accounts for nearly 60% of global production of the metal. Daily average aluminium production in China fell slightly to 119,833 tonnes last month from 119,838 tonnes in August.
In Asia, excluding China, production fell to 392,000 tonnes in September from 406,000 tonnes in August. In Africa, the output in August was down by 4,000 tonnes to 134,000 tonnes.
In the Gulf Cooperation Council, the other major aluminium producing region after China, production dropped by 16,000 tonnes to 515,000 tonnes in September.
In western and central Europe, production fell to 237,000 tonnes last month from 243,000 tonnes in August. The output of metals in North America fell by 9,000 tonnes to 324,000 tonnes in September, and in South America, it decreased 6,000 tonnes at 124,000 tonnes.
In August, global alumina production was flat on month to 12.51 million tonnes, as per the latest available data.
At 2044 IST, the most active October contract of aluminium on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was down 0.7% at INR 237.35 rupees a kg. The three-month futures contract on the London Metal Exchange was down 0.3% at $2,603.0 per tonne. End
