NEW DELHI – The Ministry of External Affairs on Monday said that India and China have arrived at an agreement on patrolling along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said the negotiators from both countries were in touch over the last few weeks to resolve the issues along the Line of Actual Control.
"As a result of the discussions that have taken place over the last several weeks, an agreement has been arrived at on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control in the India-China border area and this is leading to dis-engagement and eventually a resolution of the issues that had arisen in these areas in 2020," Misri said addressing media on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia for BRICS Summit.
India-China relations have been tense since a 2020 clash along the eastern Ladakh border, resulting in the death of 20 Indian soldiers and an unspecified number of Chinese army personnel.
Prime Minister Modi will be in Kazan on Tuesday and Wednesday for the BRICS Summit, the secretary said. Though there are speculations that Modi may hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan, the external affairs ministry is yet to confirm it. The foreign secretary said that the prime minister will hold several bilateral meetings with the leaders of BRICS nations on the sidelines of the summit.
The summit, themed 'Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security,' will provide an important platform for leaders to discuss key global issues, the Ministry of External Affairs said. BRICS is an intergovernmental organisation comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates. End
