MUMBAI – The southwest monsoon withdrew from the entire country on Wednesday, private weather agency Skymet said in a report. "The depression off Oman's coast is expected to weaken gradually in a well-marked low-pressure area," it said.

The India Meteorological Department said the southwest monsoon had withdrawn from the entire country on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Skymet said the low pressure area over the central part of the south Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression. This weather system is likely to move west-northwest towards Tamil Nadu and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coast, it said.

The agency predicts moderate to heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, south interior Karnataka, and coastal Andhra Pradesh till Thursday. Light to moderate rain is also likely over Telangana, Konkan, and Goa. Similar weather conditions are also seen over Vidarbha, Marathwada, central Maharashtra, south Gujarat, and south Madhya Pradesh till Thursday, the agency said.  End
