MoSPI invites research proposals to improve GDP, IIP, housing index

NEW DELHI – The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has invited research proposals to improve the country's national accounts, the Index of Industrial Production, and the housing index.
The ministry has invited research proposals to adjust GDP to arrive at Net Domestic Product, which would measure the depletion of natural sources. It has also called for proposals which would assess the feasibility of using goods and services tax data in compiling IIP, and also enhance the coverage of the Annual Survey of Industries.
The statistics ministry has called for research proposals which look at alternate methods of compiling the housing index within the CPI. "Since the base year revision exercise of CPI is in process, it would be the apt time to explore new approaches for compilation of housing index to address the concerns of the users and to ensure the robustness and effectiveness of the index," the ministry said. The ministry is currently working on the revision of CPI, GDP, and IIP.
It has also called for studies on the impact of COVID-19 on housing inflation, and the analysis of housing index methodology across countries.
Other research proposals invited include the digital modernisation of the statistics ministry, price collection from e-commerce platforms for international comparison programme, and the development of a Hedonic Price Index, which measures quality-adjusted price changes. End
