Over 155,000 youth register on PM internship scheme portal, source says

NEW DELHI – Over 155,000 candidates have registered themselves on the Prime Minister Internship Scheme portal within 24 hours of the portal going live, a source in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs said. Registration of applicants on the Prime Minister Internship Scheme portal began on Saturday.
Informist had reported on Friday that 193 companies had posted 90,849 internship opportunities on the portal in 24 sectors and 20 fields. The openings were available in 737 districts and 37 states and Union Territories.
Earlier this month, the government rolled out the pilot portal to facilitate a one-year internship scheme for youth aged between 21 and 24 years, announced in the Budget for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar). Companies including Reliance Industries Ltd., Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., Eicher Motor Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd., and Muthoot Finance had posted internship openings on the portal
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said in the Budget speech in July that the scheme would provide internships to 10 million youth over five years. The internships will be provided in the country's top 500 companies. Those selected for internships will get an allowance of INR 5,000 per month and a one-time assistance of INR 6,000. The companies will be expected to bear the cost of training and 10% of the internship cost from their corporate social responsibility funds, the finance minister had said. End
