NEW DELHI - India Friday expressed concern at the deteriorating security situation along the Lebanon-Israel line of demarcation. "We are concerned at the deteriorating security situation along the Blue Line. We continue to monitor the situation closely," the foreign ministry said in a statement on the recent developments in southern Lebanon. The Blue Line is a demarcation strip that divides Lebanon from Israel and the Golan Heights.
"Inviolability of UN premises must be respected by all, and appropriate measures taken to ensure the safety of UN peacekeepers and the sanctity of their mandate," the statement said.
Media reports quoting the Lebanese health ministry have said that amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah militant group, Israeli troops opened fire at three densely populated residential neighbourhoods in central Beirut, killing 22 and injuring 117 others. One of the locations that also came under fire opened by the Israeli forces was the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon's main base at Naqoura, the reports said. End
