India gets 19% below normal rain at 20.0 mm in week ended Wed, says IMD

--IMD: India rainfall in week to Wednesday 19?low normal at 20.0 mm 

 

MUMBAI – The country got an average rainfall of 20.0 mm in the week ended Wednesday, 19?low the normal rainfall of 24.5 mm for the period, the India Meteorological Department said. Two out of four homogenous regions in the country received below normal showers during the week, while one received above normal rains and the fourth region received normal precipitation, the weather bureau said.

 

East and northeast India received 30% above normal rainfall at 62.2 mm during the week. While the region has received 20?ove normal rainfall at 70.9 mm since Oct. 1, the key agricultural belt of Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand has received below-normal rainfall, the IMD said. 

 

Meanwhile, northwest and central India received 66% and 75?low normal rains during this week, the data showed. The northwest region recorded 2.4 mm rainfall, while the central region received 5.4 mm showers.

 

The South Peninsula has recorded normal rainfall at 38.1 mm, the data showed. However, since Oct. 1, the region has received 18?low normal showers at 42.2 mm.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "normal" in five subdivisions and "excess" in four during the week. The rainfall was "large excess" in three subdivisions, while it was "deficient" in six. The rainfall was "large deficient" in 18 subdivisions in the country during the week.

 

Since Oct. 1, India has received 22.9 mm of rainfall, 27?low the normal level of 31.5 mm for the period.  End
