Cabinet OKs development of National Maritime Heritage Complex in Gujarat

NEW DELHI – The Cabinet Wednesday approved the development of the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal in Gujarat to showcase India's 4500-year-old maritime heritage. The Cabinet also gave in-principle approval for Phase 1B and Phase 2 of the project, an official release said.

 

Phases 1A and 1B of the project will be developed under engineering, procurement and construction mode and Phase 2 will be developed through land subleasing and public-private partnership, the release said. Phase 1A, which is under implementation, is projected to be completed by 2025. The construction of the Light House Museum under Phase 1B will be funded by the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships, the release said.

 

The government will set up a separate society, to be governed by a committee headed by the ports, shipping and waterways minister, for the development of future phases, the ministry said. The masterplan of the complex was prepared by Hafeez Contractor and the construction of phase 1A has been entrusted to Tata Projects Ltd., the release said.  End
